How it works?

  1. To start working with us, you need to click on the button above.
    • First, enter your first name, last name and email address to which you will receive a payment confirmation and further instructions.
    • You need to select the appropriate type or types of income and whether you own any property outside of Canada. It can be real estate, cars, bank accounts, shares, land or any other asset.
    • Next, you can add one more member of your family who will submit the declaration. All individuals who are 18 years of age or older and were in Canada on December 31 of the previous year must file a return, even if they did not earn anything. Children do not need to be included if they are under 18 years old.
    • If you want to add another person, this option will appear later.
    • Next, you can add a discount coupon, then enter it in the required field.
    • All these answers are enough to calculate the price. It will appear on the screen with our contract, which contains all the terms of our work, our terms and your obligations. Please read it, because you agree to these terms by clicking the payment button.
  2. After payment, you will receive an email with instructions and a questionnaire.
    • The questionnaire is not complicated and contains a link to a video instruction on how to fill it out.
    • Prepare all photo documents, plates or electronic reports, your identity documents and your SIN number.
    • If other people will file the declaration with you or children or other family members who depend on you, prepare their documents as well.
    • Fill out the form and upload the documents in the appropriate places in the form.
    • If you have any questions, you can send a photo or screenshot to our number (368) 887 4399 with your question and we will answer as soon as possible regardless of the day or hour.
    • You can stop at any time and return to filling out the questionnaire later. All previously filled information will be saved on the device on which you started filling.
    • When you finish filling out and sending the form to us, we can start work.
  3. After we receive the completed questionnaire.
    • You will receive an authorization form for your signature. By signing it, you give us access to your dedicated tax office on the CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) website.
    • We start working and create a tax return based on the received data. If we see that we need more documents or there is an opportunity for you to receive tax relief, we will contact you by email or phone to discuss these details
  4. When the declaration is ready to be sent to the tax service.
    • We will book an online meeting with you to show you your declaration and explain what and how we did it
    • Once the final results are approved, we’ll send you a special form to sign that will allow us to send your return to the Canada Revenue Agency
  5. After submitting the declaration.
    • You will receive a paper letter in the mail with a brief report on the received data from the tax office – Notice of Assessment. You will need it to enter your electronic taxpayer account. If you already have access to your account, you will receive this report by email in the taxpayer’s account.
    • If you are expecting a payment, it may take 2 weeks to a month for direct bank payments to process your return. And up to 6 months of processing for paper declarations or checks.
    • If you have arrears to the tax office, your last day to pay the arrears is April 30. If you need payment instructions, you can find them in our last email.
    • Also, you can always get help and advice from our accountants and client managers if you need it.

Online meeting with an accountant

Before submitting your return to the CRA, you can meet with the accountant who prepared it and ask him any questions, as well as get tax advice.

What you need to prepare

Expenses and deductions that can be included in the tax return:

  1. Medical expenses – checks
    Expenses for medical or dental services, prescription drugs, glasses, contact lenses, wheelchairs, pediatric treatment, health insurance, or medical expenses not covered by insurance, etc.
  2. Child care expenses – checks
    Expenses – what you paid to have someone else look after your child while you work or study. These can be babysitters, kindergartens and day camps.
  3. Buying a first home – a document from a realtor or lawyer
    If you bought your first home in 2023, you are entitled to a deduction of $10,000 from your taxable income.
  4. Charitable donations, political and union contributions – checks
    If you have donated to any officially registered charity in Canada, political party or made contributions to trade unions, you can deduct a certain percentage from your taxable income.
  5. Moving expenses – work contract, receipts for moving expenses, a document from an educational institution confirming admission to study.
    If you moved for work or study last year, you can deduct these expenses from your taxable income.
  6. Residence in the designated northern territories – housing rental agreement, employment contract confirming the presence of a workplace in such an area, travel receipts.
    If you live or work in the prescribed northern zone – Zone A, or the prescribed intermediate zone – Zone B, you are entitled to a deduction from your taxable income from the state due to the high cost of services and goods in these zones. You can also calculate the cost of two vacations and we will help you with these calculations.
  7. Interest paid on a student loan – bank statement
    If you have or have taken out a student loan, you can deduct the interest paid on the loan from your taxable income.
  8. Tuition fee for full-time or part-time education or courses – form T2202
    If you pay or have paid for tuition, you are entitled to a deduction from your taxable income.
  9. Tax-Free First Home Savings Account – T4FHSA
    If you deposit funds into your savings account, you need to report the amount of deposits or withdrawals to the tax office.
  10. RRSP Retirement Savings Plan – relevant tax slips
    If you have an open State Retirement Savings RRSP account, you must notify the IRS of any movement of funds to or from that account.
  11. Volunteer firefighters or volunteers of search and rescue teams – T4 or a letter from the head of the fire department
    If you worked 200+ hours as a volunteer firefighter or search and rescue team, you can deduct up to $1,000 from your taxable income.
  12. If you worked as an educator or primary school teacher – checks
    If you have expenses that were not compensated by the school or kindergarten that you spent to improve the educational process, then you can reimburse them in your declaration

For employees

  • T4 slip – report or reports from one or more jobs on your income and deductions.
  • T2200 – employer input form if you are required to spend your money to earn a salary (use of a car, purchase of special clothes, tools, etc.)
  • T4E – if you received unemployment benefits
  • T5007 – if you received benefits or social benefits

For the self-employed with a small income
If you have a small additional income and are ready to pay tax on the entire amount, without deducting expenses and saving on the cost of the declaration:

  • Prepare a spreadsheet to calculate your self-employment income

For the self-employed

  • Prepare a table that will contain:
    • Income from self-employment
    • Expenses related to running a business are calculated and sorted by category
    • Household expenses if you use the home for business:
      • Total area of the house
      • The area used for business
      • Household expenses are calculated and sorted by category – checks
    • Car expenses if used for business
      • Total kilometres driven per year by car
      • The number of kilometres travelled for business purposes – logbook
      • Car expenses, calculated and sorted by category – receipts
    • Purchases of assets – checks
      • Description
      • Price
      • Date of purchase

For investment income

  • Savings accounts – T5
    If you have any custodial bank accounts, you must report the interest earned on such deposits. Go to the bank and get a T5 form. If your income is not more than 50 dollars, then the bank will not issue you such a form and you need to calculate the interest in the table yourself.
  • Dividends or profit-sharing – T5
    If you have invested in a company, own a company or have some of your net income from a workplace, you should have a T5 form to reduce the tax on this type of income
  • Shares and cryptocurrency
    If you own stocks or cryptocurrency, you don’t need to submit anything until you sell them but buy or hold them in an account. To report the sale of shares or cryptocurrency, you need to make an account statement where you can see the changes during the year. What was the purchase price, the price rise or fall, and the sale price?

Income from housing rent

  • Prepare a table that will contain:
    • Income from self-employment
    • Household or business expenses are tallied and sorted by category
    • Purchases of assets – checks

Foreign Income

  • Income earned outside of Canada during the year
    • Salary – a work certificate in which the amount earned for the year and all deducted taxes will be shown
    • Self-employed (ФОП) – tax declaration from Ukraine
    • Contractor – invoices that you issued to your customers. You’ll be considered self-employed for Canadian tax purposes, so you’ll also be entitled to an expense write-off (see the Self-Employed section; tax paid in another country will be your expense)
  • Assets outside of Canada (real estate, vehicles, bank accounts, etc.)
    • From $0 to $100,000 – no details required
    • From $100,000 to $250,000 – must have a list of assets, their location, and market value at the end of the year
    • From $250,000 or more – a detailed description of each asset, its location, purchase price, and market value at the end of the year is required.
